this is where bugs dance
behind motels in the bible belt
on circles carved in summer snow
where the moon’s eggs lie waiting to hatch
this is where bugs dance
crazed across the sandy slopes
on maps traced for autumn journeys
to an empire of lost spiders
this is where bugs dance
outside the wreck of vacant malls
where birds with crooked beaks
call out news of other rooftops
and watch the smoke
