She has a way of frightening
even the most foolhardy
with her bed–of–nails beauty.
Sandwiched between
the clown and the strong man,
she passes time between meals
filing tooth and claw to points.
She blinks her tiny eye
and turns around twice
in pursuit of her own tail.
The ladies swoon; their escorts
catch them while measuring
the distance to the door.
