Abyss & Apex : First Quarter 2006 : a Mars cycle, Sojourn on Mars

a Mars cycle

Sojourn on Mars
by Deborah P. Kolodji and ushi

no water now
on the sandy beach —
sojourn on Mars

a castle in the air
waiting for the tide

NASA invasion
fresh rover tracks
across Eagle Crater

opened ration pouch
smells like dog biscuit

a darker-pink curve
from our balloon’s shadow
races the dust storm

static on the line
a compromising position

lubricant wicks
through sterile layers
hybrid strain

her personal calendar
still has lunar days

seasonal changes
in polar ice caps
supply ship delay

decadent thoughts
of dark chocolate

long trip home
an undetected zygote
in her belly

lost in translation
a stranger on the shore
