Bruce Boston
Here
We find our hero in the midst
of azure dreams of lust
and glory that will take him ten
years to eradicate from his
psyche until it portrays
a world so blank and turgid
it could birth any universe,
monstrous or miraculous.
After that, every summer
doldrums was anticlimactic
as a never-never childhood,
a brief residue of tears
lost in a lakeside village,
the maybes of the past
forming horseshoe clouds,
innuendo his last resort,
waiting for the maître d’
and the immaculate check
in a leather folder engraved
with a history of tomorrow
on which he would place
his incarnadine stamp,
a message concise and wry
in his inimitable and often
totally alien hand,
scrawled by an innocent.
